A New Day

Sunrise: A symbol of the new beginning God breathes into our lives "fresh every morning." For God not only created us; He recreates us anew with each day. And so, truly, "This is the day that the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it" (Ps. 118:24, NKJV).

Living Water

"Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them" (John 7:37,38).

Which Way?

A cairn is a trail marker of stones left by hikers to show the way forward. What cairns has God placed to help you know which way the path leads? Proverbs promises, "In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths" (Prov. 3:6).

The Light Shines in the Darkness

"When the storms of life are raging, stand by me."

"When my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I" (Ps. 61:2).

Peace is as elusive as the shifting shades of light, the gentle brush of the breeze, the changing shape of a smile. And it can not be tied down, caged in our hearts. Peace is Jesus, here with us, in love.

The Three Apostles

Three peaks as seen across Texas Creek Valley, in Collegiate Peaks Wilderness, are a wordless sentinel, standing for the witness to life in Jesus Christ. "Now...you are...built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, ...built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit" (Eph. 2:19,20,22).

I Will Lift Up My Eyes

"He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; He causes me to stand on the heights" (Ps. 18:33).

Jesus taught that you are a treasure, and He wants to give you a full, good life. I invite you through this website to absorb, feed on, and share life in the heavenly places, the mountains of hope in Christ Jesus.

I will talk here about God’s love for you in the kinds of real life challenges I have seen in those I have served and in my own life.  I hope you will feel heard in your deepest needs in this site.

The blogs will include a variety of topics of interest to Christian readers, revolving around themes of faith, love, and hope. These blogs will be published every Sunday; I encourage your responses, questions, or topical suggestions.

Come back often, and let’s get together in the heavenly places.

    “Simple Gifts”

This morning a very dear friend asked, “How are you?” I said I was grateful–for yet another day to breathe, love, grow, laugh, walk, work in the yard and be with my dogs and eat my wife’s crockpot stew and drink cool water. And I […]

    “What Are You Waiting For?”

We wait… We wait for Spring; we wait for a cure; we wait for graduation and marriage and for our shift to end and childbirth and retirement and a bigger house and…. Sometimes it seems we wait to live. The church and the Bible tell us to […]

    “Idolatry in Heavenly Places”

I am an idolater. There have been many sins in my life, some of them rather dramatic. Some of those sins have related to alcoholism, some to my rather intense fear of abandonment, some to a rather tumultuous childhood. But the most heinous sins in […]

    “Forbidden Prayers”

Counselors ask for clients to, eventually, show enough trust that they will have the freedom to say the darndest things. (Like the kids on Art Linkletter’s show; I know—I’m dating myself!) And yet we label many of the discussions we need most to have with God […]

    “Invisible Strangers”

Do you ever walk right by an acquaintance and feel like you’re invisible to them? Or sometimes someone may ask you where you’ve been, if you go to church or a Bible study meeting for the first time in a while; and you may think […]

“Mary and the Art of Christmas”

Mary was the mother of the greatest artist of history. For she took the raw materials of her womb and world, placed them in God’s hands, and they became the canvas and paints, the notes of the song through which God painted the birth of his son and sang the song of […]

    “The Gift to be Simple”

Gratitude for simple gifts is not always easy. I am often aware, when I post a picture or event for which I am grateful, of folks who wish they had a dog, a spouse, a flower, a grandfather, a son pulling a grandson in a wagon, […]

    “The Love of Your Life”

Hello, dear friends– How would our love life look, if we knew what we’ll know, say, a hundred years from now? Would we love our families, our friends, our churches, our nation, our work differently? Would we love God differently? Would we then know what it […]

    “When I Can’t Pray”

Do you ever feel like your prayers bounce off the ceiling? Do you ever feel like you can’t even get your prayers that far, because you feel like you can’t pray? That question comes from a church member many years ago whose mother was gravely ill. […]

    “Who’s Got This?”

What keeps you from rest? This time of year most mothers would laugh or roll their eyes at that question; and they’d think about all that has been done and that still needs to be done to get kids, supplies, routines, rides, and their children’s […]
